On October 20, 2021, the Center for the Study and Prevention of Gender-Based Violence at the University of Delaware hosted a teach-in and listening session in response to the horrific case of intimate partner violence involving two UD students. The teach-in portion of the event featured experts and advocates of gender-based violence who spoke on resources for support and methods of prevention. The listening session served as the second half of the event where students, faculty, and staff at UD voiced their concerns about gender-based violence in various communities, such as BIPOC communities, the LGBTQ+ community, survivor spaces, and fraternity and sorority life.
The Center has generated a report of feedback and topics that emerged during the listening session, all of which address the ways UD offices and organizations can better protect and support students while also preventing gender-based violence. Such topics include more education, increased resources to the counseling center, addressing fraternity life, structural safety, and campus communication.
